Josh’s Story
Josh was born in Alabama and has spent much of their life in in the state, moving from Eufaula to Troy at the age of 18 to study nursing then to Birmingham at 22 to earn a degree in healthcare management. When Josh and Ashleigh met, Josh was working as a Program Director within the School of Health Professionals at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. In 2023, with the encouragement of Ashleigh, Josh went back to school to complete a Masters in Health Physics. Josh’s passion for public awareness regarding radiation safety has shot Josh down a new an exciting career path.
Ashleigh’s Story
Ashleigh grew up in the upper peninsula of Michigan. She earned her bachelor’s degree in biology at the University of Wisconsin Superior where she made some of her life-long friends. Ashleigh’s interest in microbiology led her to Alabama to pursue her PhD and some might say “the rest is history”. Ashleigh is currently in a clinical microbiology fellowship to gain the knowledge and qualifications to oversee the operations of the clinical microbiology laboratory at a major medical center. Ashleigh has two cats, Daryl and Blanche, which while on paper are hers, are equally as loved by Josh. Ashleigh would argue that they get their stubbornness and sass from both.
Our Relationship
We met in 2020 and had our first date over queso and tostones. We lost track of time and talked for four hours (Ashleigh was late to a dinner afterwards with her best friends; Vishal will never let her live it down). We spent time together over the next few weeks and never ran out of things to talk about. Just weeks after our first date, the pandemic shut everything down. The isolation of the pandemic allowed our conversations to grow even deeper and we knew what we had was something special by the end of Summer 2020. We have spent the past five years growing together, taking adventures, an making memories. We were engaged in November 2023, and held off on wedding planning until after Josh’s summer internship in Connecticut in 2024. Now, in 2025, we're finally getting married!
